Dear Q... I bought Fono's CD and don't understand what their song "Collide" means. If you could offer any suggestions to the meaning of the song I'd be grateful. The opener to Fono's goesaroundcomesaround is a veritable masterpiece of rock that confronts us with the force of God's love, and the violent impact of it with our limited, shackled souls. As I paraphrase "Collide," please note this is only my interpretation. In this perfect world, our paths may never meet We'll never compromise, or collide Surrounding ourselves with likeminded people, never 'compromising' our day's routine, we can go for weeks, months, years missing the beauty of a sunset, the wonder of a child, the passion of an embrace—all 'collisions' of God's great love and creativity with our humanity. It's You, You let me go You let me fly, You let me run so high Though it's unstated how this point of change is reached, it's a process of the Lord taking our narrow, selfish focus and fixing it on eternity. This encounter is never cozy or pleasing, but, in the end, is what dares us to go beyond our meager existence. It's You, You make my world collide You make my life complete The chorus is priceless. As the Lord pushes us toward the agonizing, unremitting truth, it truly completes us. Even when it hurts our flesh. You let them see me fly A third party is introduced: our circle of influence. And whereas before we were silent with our friends on faith, the 'collide' mindset is willing to take on the risk of relating to someone who thinks and believes differently. Soon the freedom, the fulfillment —the flight—of our lives is apparent to them, and they become dissatisfied with their passionless place in life. They are now ready for a 'collision' of their own. Never walk away, never let you down Never will deny this life Were you to stop in at a local bar on a Friday night, you'd doubtless find a party in progress, a celebration of people honestly enjoying themselves. Come Saturday morning, though, the whole lot has headaches and hangovers. God's pleasure isn't like that. And even when life isn't easy, and they're aren't answers, He'll 'never walk away.' Never 'denying' the complexity of life, but there to assure and to comfort. It's You, You make my worlds collide You make my life complete You let them see me fly "...you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power." Ultimately, "Collide" is a new spin on an age-old theme, surrender. Disposing all our bewildering thoughts, disarrayed feelings, and selfish desires in favor of soaring on a newfound relationship with Jesus Christ.
